Before starting this pleasant walk, it is worth taking a city tour through Burgdorf with its impressive castle. The castle can be reached on foot from the train station by strolling leisurely through the old town, consisting of the upper town and lower town. There you can also discover the Franz Gertsch Museum and the Luginbühl Museum in the Old Slaughterhouse. The path then leads down to the Emme. Beautiful walking paths follow the river all the way to Kirchberg. Along the way, you can cross to the other side of the river at the Neumatt bridge. Otherwise, stay on the left bank of the Emme to Kirchberg train station. Here, you can either take the train (S44) back to Burgdorf in a few minutes or walk back upstream to Burgdorf on the other riverbank. Of course, you can extend this Emme walk by continuing for example to Utzenstorf, where a pretty water castle called Landshut is located in a spacious park.
