Friedrich-August trail (western section)
Buses regularly run from Kompatsch to the Saltria basin (hotel settlement) in the east of the Seiser Alm in summer. From there, you can comfortably hike to the Plattkofel hut at Fassajoch (the route can be halved by using the Florian chairlift), where the western section of the well-known Friedrich-August trail – also called the "Schneidweg" – begins. It follows the Seiser ridge "Auf der Schneid" to the Mahlknechtjoch, from where it returns to the starting point via the Tanezzaalm.
From the Almbus stop in Saltria, follow the forest road 150 m east uphill to the Florian lift valley station, then past the Radauer Schwaige to a fork. Take the wide path No. 7A on the right, passing the Saltner Schwaige at 1728 m, through meadows and patches of forest, moderately steep uphill over a long ridge heading southeast to a forest road. Continue straight on path No. 9 (right turn to nearby mountain lodge Zallinger) very steeply uphill over a ridge, later along the western slope of the Plattkofel, still steeply southeast to the Plattkofel hut at 2300 m at Fassajoch. Now with path No. 4 and 594, gently uphill westwards along the grassy high ridge of the Seiser ridge ("Auf der Schneid"), then downhill to the saddle before the Palatsch, which is bypassed on the left to the saddle behind. Along the left side (south side) of the ridge to the next saddle and straight on to forest road No. 532, coming from the left from Durontal. Shortly to the right to Mahlknechtjoch, 2188 m, and
