Friedrich-August trail (eastern section)
As a brilliant high promenade between the Sella and Rosengarten groups, the Friedrich-August trail is highly popular among Dolomite connoisseurs. Its eastern section runs along the south slope of the magnificent Langkofel group from Sella to Fassajoch and to the Plattkofel hut located there. Captivating views of Marmolada and the Fassa Dolomites accompany us along the way.
From Hotel Passo Sella Resort, ascend the pass road a short distance, then take a road to the right (south) to Sellajoch, 2213 m, with Rifugio Valentini on the left below. The road (path no. 557), along the east slope of the Langkofel group, goes southwest to Saleihütte, 2222 m, and up to Forcella Rodella, 2308 m. Into the south side of the group to Friedrich-August hut, 2298 m. Along grassy slopes westward to Rifugio Sandro Pertini, 2300 m, and further, up and down over a shoulder, to Plattkofel hut, 2300 m, at Fassajoch.The road no. 533 leads down east towards Plattkofelalm, 2248 m. Now alongside the Rio di Pegn to the south, then through forest down to Rifugio Micheluzzi, 1860 m, in the charming Duron valley. Here on a natural road southeast down the valley to Campitello, 1414 m, in the Fassa valley. From there to the valley station of the Funivia Col Rodella in the south of the valley floor and ascent to the mountain station Col Rodella east of Col Rodella summit near the Rifugio
