Göppingen is home to some beautiful hiking trails: The Göppingen circular hiking trails entice visitors with stunning views, varied landscapes, and impressive natural scenery. Seven circular hiking trails, ranging from 3.5 to 23 kilometers in length, offer hiking fun for almost every taste.

The “Friedenslinde” circular hiking trail in Holzheim is an approximately 8.3-kilometer-long route that starts at the parking lot of the Jahnhalle in Holzheim. This beautiful circular hike, with its scenic views, is perfect for a leisurely family walk. Right at the start of the tour, the “Friedenslinde” greets hikers from the Reuteberg. Along the way, you’ll repeatedly catch new perspectives of the panoramic view characteristic of the Hohenstaufen city of Göppingen: the impressive “Three Emperors’ Mountains”—Hohenstaufen, Rechberg, and Stuifen—stretching across the Fil Valley all the way to the “blue wall” of the Swabian Alb in the south.

    • Respect trail closures and the quiet zones established in the recreational trail plan.
    • Leave no trace—such as trash or animal waste—and treat the trails with care.
    • Be proactive and considerate. Adapt your behavior to the situation at hand. Safety comes first.
    • Respect other users of the woods and open countryside.
    • Be considerate of animals and plants.
    • Plan ahead and make the most of daylight. Try to avoid walking during dawn and dusk.
    • Observe the ban on entering agricultural land during the growing season.

    Roadbook

From the starting point, we walk from Holzheim toward St. Gotthardt. The trail takes us directly up the Reuteberg to the tree that gives this loop trail its name: the “Friedenslinde” (Peace Linden). Visible from afar, it has withstood every storm and thunderstorm for 150 years. If hikers look back along the way, they’ll be treated to a breathtaking view stretching from Göppingen-Holzheim all the way to the Drei Kaiserberge. From the Peace Linden Tree, we now walk downhill toward St. Gotthardt; from the tranquil hamlet of St. Gotthardt, the Albtrauf escarpment—with the Bossler, Kornberg, and Grünenberg peaks—is a beautiful sight. We now walk through St. Gotthardt, turn left, and continue on to Manzen. As we pass through Manzen later in the tour, the Jura Restaurant—in a quiet location on the outskirts of this Göppingen neighborhood—offers a cozy place to stop for refreshments, complete with a sports field and playground. Passing meadows and fields, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the Kaiserberge to the north and the Alb foothills to the south before reaching the starting point again.
