From Randegg, head southwards up the hill on Freisinger Straße.
A sharp right bend - we turn left here and follow the marking southwards.
We come to a crossroads, but following the marking, we go steeply uphill.
A chapel is on the left.
Another 100 m along the forest edge, then the path leads into the forest – remaining steep, the path turns west.
We reach the Keltenstein - an interesting information board.
Before leaving the forest, the next chapel.
Then we leave the forest and enter alpine meadows.
Shortly after, we reach the farmhouse Franzenreith 1.
We leave the farmhouse on the right, our path goes flat and straight, bypassing the Gruberkogel on the right side.
We come to a hay barn, next to it a cider fountain where we can refresh ourselves.
A short variant of the Franzenreith loop leads here eastwards into the valley between the Gruberkogel and Vogelsberg.
We continue uphill on the concrete path on the right side of Vogelsberg.
Where we leave the forest, we leave the concrete path to the left and climb along a pasture fence to the cross on Vogelsberg.
Very beautiful, scenic rest spot!
After resting, we return the short way to the concrete path and continue our hike southwards.
We leave a farmhouse on the left.
If vegetation (and cattle) allow, we can take a shortcut left at a hay barn to the forest edge.
Or a bit longer on the forest road out to the Pre-Alpine path along the Höhenstraße.
Past the Richtereck farmhouse eastwards to a crossroads.
Here we leave the Höhenstraße and follow the marking that leads eastwards along the ridge.
The signposted Franzenreith loop goes north down the alpine meadow to Scharnreith and then on to the farmhouse Hinterleiten 15.
We stay on the highest ridge and go to the summit of Grestner Hochkogel (821 m).
From the summit, we descend southeast.
At first briefly steep southwards, then gently on a forest path to a small meadow.
The marked path continues straight to Grestenberg.
We descend 50 vertical meters northwards on the first alpine meadow until we meet a forest road coming from the right.
We turn left on it to a former farmhouse.
Continuing in the same direction about 800 m on a comfortable path to the farmhouse Hinterleiten 15.
Here we meet the longer variant of the Franzenreith loop again.
In front of the farmhouse, turn right onto the asphalt road, after a bend it goes 700 m northeast downhill on asphalt.
At the following crossroad, turn left, briefly uphill, then cross a stream and continue on the paved farm driveway past Hof Baumgarten to Hof Aschbichl.
Behind the farmhouse begins a forest path that leads us to the next farmhouse and further to the first chapel from the ascent. Now on the familiar path down to Randegg.
