Roadbook
The route starts along the old railway embankment towards Elterlein. The former bridge piers accompany the path, as well as the rocky slopes and idyllic forests.
Time and again, dreamlike clearings open up, offering wide views over the entire Erzgebirge, in good weather reaching as far as Scheibenberg, the upper reservoir, or even the Fichtelberg.
About halfway along the route, you pass through the animal park in Waschleithe into the village and cross the street by the Hotel Osterlamm to once again immerse yourself in the Ore Mountains forest. Here you also have to conquer the only ascent on the Pförtelsteig over a short stretch.
You follow the Röhrenweg until shortly before Oswaldtalstraße and then turn right onto an old path. At first, you still walk on a soft forest path that gradually narrows until it is only a small trodden path. At Oswaldtalstraße, you descend a small slope with sturdy footwear. You cross the street and keep right on the opposite meadow to discover a small hidden bridge made of wooden planks over the stream. You cross the bridge carefully and follow the subsequent path parallel to the street until you encounter the pillars of the old railway line again. Here, there is some climbing to do – the path leads to the right past the pillars to the old railway embankment. Follow this back to the starting point of the hike.
If you find the last section too adventurous, you can also follow the Röhrenweg to Oswaldtalstraße and then walk back to the parking lot along the street.
