Forest edge hike Oberdorf-Grenchen
Along the forest: This leisurely hike from Oberdorf to Grenchen lives up to its name – it mostly follows the forest edge with beautiful views and is also suitable for families.
This hike mostly follows the forest edge from Oberdorf to the watchmaking town of Grenchen. The start and end points are accessible by public transport. The beautiful views and the dinosaur tracks near Lommiswil are the highlights of this hike, which is also suitable for families. The tracks in the quarry between Oberdorf and Lommiswil come from huge herbivores, specifically a group of brontosaurs. From the viewing platform, a beautiful view of the dinosaur tracks is guaranteed. Information boards explain their formation and provide interesting facts about the life of dinosaurs. As a supplement, a visit to the Solothurn Natural History Museum is recommended, featuring an exhibition related to the tracks. The stork village Altreu is also clearly visible along the hike. And those who take the boat from Grenchen back to Solothurn after the hike even pass by it.
The forest edge hike is marked as SchweizMobil route no. 501. It still allows time for sightseeing at the end in Grenchen: On the 500-meter-long path through the Grenchen Erratic Boulder Garden, you can experience 500,000 years of earth history. Ten information boards and around 60 erratic boulders along the renatured Moosbach invite to learn and linger. The Cultural-Historical Museum Grenchen tells the story of industrialization and its consequences in the Grenchen region in its permanent exhibition.
