Forest Climate Trail Schellbronn-Neuhausen Enz district
The climate trail describes at 8 stations how much CO2 the trees absorb and how much we humans generate through our consumption and behavior.
The forests in the Enz district, like many other forests, are acutely affected by climate change, which has become especially apparent recently due to the dry years from 2018 to 2020. The necessary adaptation measures, such as maintenance and planting, are therefore very urgent. Unfortunately, this topic is very abstract and thus hard to grasp for many people. To educate and raise awareness, the ForestClimateTrail in the direct forest connection is a wonderful opportunity to convey the acute threat of climate change directly on site. Firewood and wood chips count among the energetic uses of wood from the forest. Awareness of this renewable, sustainable, climate-neutral, and regional circular economy is promoted by the ForestClimateTrail. It is conveyed through activating elements along the ForestClimateTrail that responsible, sustainable use of native forests is the epitome of applied climate protection in the region.
Every visitor can come to the realization through the ForestClimateTrail that the individual human can make a significant contribution to mitigating climate change. Ideally, this realization leads in the medium term to a more conscious handling of one’s own CO2 footprint. The theoretically so abstract topic of the changing forest is pedagogically exciting in many ways. What did the forest look like 100 years ago? What will the forest look like in 100 years? What contribution do I make to this change? Where can I personally change and adapt? All these questions are approached in a playful and very attractive way along the ForestClimateTrail.
The ForestClimateTrail scores particularly well in family-friendly nature experiences: in wind and weather, preferably of course in the best sunshine, strolling through the fragrant forest, rustling through the undergrowth with children and discovering the importance of the forest as a recreational area, habitat for plants and animals, and as a regional source of valuable wood. This experience, supported by the current environmentally pedagogically prepared information on climate protection and climate adaptation in the forest, promotes the climate-conscious behavior of visitors. The ForestClimateTrail is supported by the "Forest Experience Enzkreis" app, which can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.enzkreis.walderlebnis2).
The climate trail is mostly barrier-free. A short non-barrier-free section can be bypassed on the forest path with a stroller and wheelchair.
It is also not possible with a normal wheelchair to reach the short climb to the Günter-Holzhauer pavilion and the playground. From the pavilion, there is a beautiful view over the Monbach valley up to Monakam.
