This easily accessible scenic peak west of Lake Tegernsee attracts hikers from two directions: from Lenggries via the Hirschtalsattel and from Bad Wiessee via the Aueralm. Despite its modest elevation, the Fockenstein offers an excellent panoramic view, and the cozy Aueralm is a worthwhile place to stop for a break. A top choice among day-hike mountains.
From the parking lot at the entrance to the Söllbach Valley, follow the wide but closed road to the Söllbachklause. Follow the road to the second small bridge over the Söllbach. Before reaching it, a road branches off to the right, leading through the forested southeastern flank of the Söllberg to the ridge southwest of the Waxelmoosalm, where it reaches a trail junction. From there, continue left on the alpine trail through the forest to the meadows of the Aueralm, where the Fockenstein rises in the distance. Continue along the small alpine road until a signposted trail branches off to the right. Follow this partly steep trail over the wooded, rugged ridge to the Fockenstein.From the summit of the Fockenstein, we descend southwestward over mostly open terrain, exit a hollow, and come to an unmarked trail junction. There, we keep to the left and follow a rough dirt road that leads us to the Almsträßlein toward the Aueralm. We continue along this road, past the Neuhüttenalm, back to the

Heinrich Bauregger, geboren 1951 im Berchtesgadener Land, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte (M.A.). Nach seinem Studium war er viele Jahre in Buchverlagen tätig (unter anderem auch beim Rother Bergverlag). Von Kindheit an in den Bergen wandernd unterwegs, lebte er seine Passion zunächst in den Alpen aus, dann folgten zahlreiche Trekkingtouren in den Bergen der Welt (Himalaya, Ostafrika, Mexiko, Anden). Schließlich entdeckte er die Abruzzen (Mittelitalien) als seine zweite Heimat („Tra Mare e Monti“). Heute lebt er abwechselnd in München und in Sulmona als freier Lektor und Autor. Er hat zahlreiche erfolgreiche Wander-, Rad- und Reisebücher verfasst.
