Relaxed with the steepest cogwheel railway in the world up to the Pilatus plateau: The summits Esel and Oberhaupt are reachable on foot within minutes and offer spectacular views of the Lake Lucerne below and the almost endless ridge of the Pilatus massif. Numerous legends and stories surround Lucerne's local mountain, for example about a dragon living in the mountain. On the Dragon Trail, we follow this legend and enjoy the views offered by the rock-cut openings. Afterwards, we follow the flower path to the Tomlishorn. Along the way, there are flower signs providing information about the local flora – alpine plants are protected throughout the Pilatus area. The Tomlishorn, the third summit of our hike, is the highest point of Pilatus with a breathtaking panoramic view. Afterwards, we descend to the Ämsigen station.
