The Faja Racón is a perfect tour for those who want direct contact with the fantastic rock formations without climbing too high. The comfortable ledge path connects the imposing steep basins of Carriata and Cotatuero, always several hundred meters above the valley floor of the Río Arazas. Along the way, you can see not only the unique rock castle of Tozal del Mallo but also the extremely colorful steep fronts, at the feet of which the flower-rich path passes through several rock coves before approaching the west wall – La Fraucata – of the massive Morrón de Tobacor with its glacier-carved steps. The tour concludes with the mighty cascade of the Circo de Cotatuero before descending into the valley.
From the Pradera de Ordesa, we walk to the park entrance. Here, the signposted path to the »Faja Racón« begins to the right. At the following fork, we keep our destination, continuing to the right and coming again to a fork at 1360 m. Here, the path comes up from the left from the access road, while we continue right on the beautiful and comfortable forest trail. Shortly after a wooden shelter, the view opens to Tozal del Mallo (see Tour 23 »Faja de las Flores, 2380 m«, variant) with its unmistakable shape and the wide Circo de Carriata. At the following junction, 1810 m, we have almost finished the ascent: Straight ahead, the path continues to the »Clavijas de Carriata«, we turn right with a hairpin bend and climb a bit more before the path flattens, transitions to the ledge, and enters the Ordesa Valley.
