Varied circular route to the Great Eyberg, the highest mountain in the Dahn region. At the summit of the Eyberg Tower, a great panoramic view. Approach through very beautiful valley and floodplain landscape.

What to expect… 1): MOUNTAIN WITH VIEW & IDYLLIC VALLEY FLOODPLAINS 2) QUIET…, rarely crowded The route leads to the highest mountain of the Dahn region, the Great Eyberg (520 m). A "brisk" ascent requires some basic fitness. Upon arrival, the observation tower rewards with a great panoramic view extending to the Rhine Plain, the Odenwald in the east. In the west the view extends far beyond Pirmasens. Looking south, you have the entire Wasgau below you. Slightly further down there is another viewpoint (Wasgau Viewpoint / beautiful view) offering another great panorama. You can see the castles Trifels and Drachenfels and the towns from Schindhard to Busenberg. The view is dominated by the Jüngstberg near Busenberg. Also very beautiful is the approach through the Seibert Valley, which is scenically attractive. This route is, surprisingly, little frequented. Only at the start (to the PWV hut) and at the end (from Büttelfels) does it overlap with other often highly frequented routes of the region. Therefore, this route is a good alternative if the much-frequented Dahn routes are overcrowded. Types of paths: 50% narrow hiking trails, 50% paved roads/forest roads. Orientation: the corresponding trail markers are almost continuously present. Only in a few places might a GPS or map be helpful. Waypoints: hiking parking lot - campsite - Weihersebene - Otto-Eisel Trail - Elwetritsche Rocks - PWV hut in Schneiderfeld - Moosbach Valley - Little Taubeneck - Great Eyberg - Shelter at Hundel - Forest Office Wasgau - Dahn District - Wasgau Viewpoint / Beautiful View - Büttelfels - hiking parking lot Refreshment possibility Dahner Hut - PWV - In Schneiderfeld: https://pwv-dahn.de
Author’s recommendation
Sparsely frequented through idyllic valleys and lonely paths: ideal alternative route when the other Dahn hiking routes are overcrowded…
Be sure to climb the Eyberg Tower: magnificent view.
Provision: apart from the PWV hut at the start of the route, no other refreshment options: bring enough provisions
