Those starting at the Eschenlohe station should choose the ascent via the Hahnbichlsteig and the Pustertal in dry weather and with appropriate skills. This section of the trail should be approached with great caution in snow, depending on avalanche conditions. Hikers will definitely look forward to a little refreshment at the Weilheimer Hütte after almost 11 km of distance and more than 1000 m of elevation gain.
Ideally, you reach the peak of the Krottenkopf before the break. Then follow the trail past the mountain rescue hut to the Oberer Rißkopf and continue off-trail to the Kareck.
From there, descend back to the path towards the Bischof, cross it to reach the Frickensattel.
The ascent to the Hoher Fricken is unproblematic. From the summit, follow the well-marked descent towards Esterbergalm and continue via the Frauenmahd to the last ascent of this long route to the Wank.
Once there, it is only about 1000 m of descent left to the station in Garmisch.
The route can also be eased with one or two overnight stays. Both the Weilheimer Hütte and the Wankhaus offer accommodations.
