The focus of this hike through the east of the district and university town of Vechta is on the naturally situated estates Füchtel and Welpe. Built in the 14th century, the former water castle of the Füchtel estate is today famous for breeding highly awarded Oldenburg horses. The location on the Picker and Jakobsweg trails is also ideal. The Füchteler Bach babbles along. The horse paddocks are typical for the region. In 1754, the chapel with its beautiful baroque altar was built there. From there, you proceed to the Welpe estate, which lies idyllically in the Welper mixed forest. It still consists of some historic buildings, the clubhouse of the Vechta Golf Club (one of the oldest local half-timbered buildings), the former barn (now guesthouse), the old water mill, and the old manor house (restaurant/café) from 1645. From there, you continue hiking along the city outskirts, pass the university on the left, and go through the Poggenmoor back to the Füchtel estate. Through various access paths and variations, you can individually design the hike according to your interests.
