Eselstein at Semmering

We leave Semmering train station and go up the stairs on the right next to the impressive Haus Stefanie and then behind the building to the left across the street. Further up, past a beautiful building from the Semmering golden age, we come to a steep, wide path that leads in a right curve up to the town of Semmering itself. From there forward to the mountain pass, then left towards Hirschkogel-Tummelplatz, past the lift valley station on the left to the street and behind the massive sports hotel to the forest path towards Maria Schutz. On this promenade, almost flat along the slope towards Greis and there across the street that runs from Semmering to Maria Schutz. Past the closed Bärenwirt along the Gebirgsjäger Memorial Trail, continuing on it, later at a junction turned left along a secured trail (-A) to Eselstein. Surprisingly pretty and appealing panoramic view. Back to the junction and left, passing the S6 expressway twice, we reach Schottwien with the lovely ruins and place to eat. Shortly afterwards, we enter the area of the railway hiking trail network and easily find the end of the hike at the Klamm-Schottwien stop.
