Enchanted Forest - Hintersee - Wartstein
We start in Ramsau (Hotel Rehlegg) and walk along the Ramsauer Ache to the church. Then we go into the forest. After a short climb, we reach the glacier springs. Water bubbles everywhere from the forest floor here.
Going downhill again, we maintain the original direction and reach the Marxenklamm. Here the Ache is deeply cut. From a small bridge, there is a great view into the gorge. Now we reach the inn "Wirtshaus am Zauberwald" and thus the beginning of the Enchanted Forest.
About 3,500 years ago, a mass of about 15 million cubic meters of rock slid down from the Hochkalter and blocked the valley. This rockslide still shapes the landscape today. The water of the Hintersee made its way through the boulders. This is how the fairy-tale landscape was created.
Through the jumble of rocks, partly over footbridges and stairs, the path always follows the water. There are also many flowers to discover here, so also take a look at the rocks along the path.
Then we reach the kiosk, marking the end of the Enchanted Forest. We now walk left along the Hintersee. On the other side of the lake awaits the Seeklause inn and the Café Gelfahrt. A stop here is worthwhile with a great view. You can even see the Blaueishütte.
We continue on the very well-marked path to the Wartstein. Two steep climbs and the summit is reached. Here we have a great view of the Hintersee and the surrounding mountains.
Before descending, we make a detour to the Magdalenengrotto. Be careful here, the path is very slippery when wet!!
The descent is via the forest path to Bindenhäusl. We walk a short distance along the road. At the intersection, keep right, then a somewhat inconspicuous path at the pasture gate leads left into the forest (signposted) and brings us along the Lattenbach. Soon we reach the beautiful Kunterweg church. From here it goes steeply down on the Kunterweg back to Ramsau.
