The two highest elevations on the forested ridge between Micheldorf (E) and Scharnstein (W) can be comfortably ascended from the Graßnerkreuz over meadows and forest.

From the starting point Graßnerkreuz at the highest point between Steinbach am Ziehberg and Micheldorf, first walk - very scenic and beautiful - over paved roads and meadows to Kronbauer at Sonnberg (former snack station). There you enter the forest, mostly on forest roads, reaching the Eiskogel (1,087 m).

Since the eastern and western forest areas have been cleared, you can enjoy a wonderful panorama. Over the connecting forest ridge, first descend to the "Ederbild" and then ascend again to the Perneckerkogel (1,080 m). Unfortunately, the summit is densely forested.

On the descent, bypass the Eiskogel just below its summit on the north side, return to Kronbauer, and follow the ascent route back to the starting point. Alternatively, the asphalt road can also be used for the descent.

At the right time, the meadows in the lower part are covered with flowers.

    Safety information

Up to Kronbauer the signage/marking is unfortunately somewhat sparse. Otherwise, no objective dangers are to be expected.

    Tips and suggestions

Out of consideration for the agriculturally used areas, it is requested not to shortcut the bends of the asphalt road through the meadows. This is only really responsible in snow conditions.

    Roadbook

The start is at the parking lot at the highest point between Micheldorf and Steinbach am Ziehberg. There is the so-called (and already somewhat neglected) Graßnerkreuz. First, walk a short distance on the road towards Steinbach am Ziehberg. At the first junction (bus stop), we hike uphill to the right, then again right at the next intersection (signpost "Gh Rühler") and now uphill on the asphalt road.

Shortly before the road ends at a farm, cross to the edge of the forest and follow it uphill. The path soon becomes more visible, passing through a short forest section to another farm. From there, a meadow is crossed in a straight line on a tractor path uphill. At the top, there is another farmhouse and a chapel. Now we follow the asphalt road, first left, then right, continuously uphill to the former snack station Kronbauer (915 m).

Up to this point, you could also drive by car, but then the hike would be almost ridiculously short.

From Kronbauer first along the forest edge, then uphill on forest roads through the woods, finally on a forest path to the summit cross on the Eiskogel (1,087 m). Beautiful views to the west and east reward the ascent. Then a slight descent to the "Ederbild" and the "Grömerkreuz" right next to it and on a forest ridge to the highest and forested summit of the Perneckerkogel (1,080 m).

On the return journey, we walk left (north) past Eiskogel and then retrace the same route as the ascent back to the starting point.

Those who want to make the lower half easier can of course also return to the starting point via the asphalted road (see track).
