There is a dense network of mostly well-marked and signposted hiking trails around the Burgenland state capital, some of which we want to get to know on this tour. We visit a cave, a historic quarry and enjoy the views from the Jubiläumswarte and the Gloriette at the end of the tour.
From the cathedral square in Eisenstadt, we walk opposite the cathedral through the narrow Matthias-Marckhl-Gasse and Josef-Stanislaus-Albach-Gasse to the Franciscan church and through a city gate into the palace park. We walk uphill between the machine pond and the outdoor pool, past the tennis courts on the right, to the obelisk. (If you have parked in Glorietteallee, walk downhill, enter the palace park at the crossroads below the conservatory and then turn left along the upper end of the park to the obelisk). We leave the park, following the white and yellow markings on the half-right, but then continue to follow the road where it turns left at a rest area. At the junction with the Hartlsteig lane, we turn left downhill. At the next crossroads, a sign on the railing points towards Johannesgrotte and Kürschnergrube.
