The Eibsee, situated at the foot of the Zugspitze, is a special attraction. Time and again, this easy walk reveals new, impressive views, and the immediate surroundings of the lake are also breathtaking. It is characterized by sparse forest, bizarre rock formations, and numerous small lakes that suddenly appear in the woods. If you follow the suggested route here, you’ll initially look out from the southern shore of the lake primarily toward the Ammergau Alps, which are reflected in the crystal-clear water. On the way back, which then leads mainly through sparse forest on the north side of the lake, the views of the striking Zugspitze dominate. By the way: when the days are really hot, you can, of course, go swimming in the Eibsee. So don’t forget your swimwear!▶ From the parking lot (or the bus stop), we walk along a small road past the Eibseehotel 01 and down toward the lake. The paved road ends at the lifeguard station, and just beyond it, the route forks. The loop trail heads to the right, along the lakeshore, and soon we reach the Frillensee 02, which stretches out in the dark forest against the backdrop of the sharply defined Waxensteine. Just beyond that, we come to the outdoor swimming pool. The wide walking path then leaves the lakeshore and climbs noticeably through the forest. It then winds its way through a few wide ditches, descends slightly, climbs again, and reaches the highest point of the hike at an elevation of about 1,020 meters. On a very gentle descent, we finally make our way back down to the lakeshore and reach the westernmost point of the lakeside trail 03. There, a lively little stream splashes down over a small waterfall and flows toward the lake. It is the only significant tributary of the Eibsee. The loop trail now continues eastward through the forest, repeatedly offering beautiful views of the still water, in which the rugged cliffs of the Zugspitze’s northern slopes, the Riffelwandspitzen, the Riffelspitzen, and the Waxensteine are now reflected. On the way back, we also pass the seven small islands in the Eibsee. At the Braxensee, our walking path leads us close to an impressive cove, then we head into the forest and once again to a cove, until the promenade at Untersee 04 spans a narrow part of the lake via a small bridge and, after a slight ascent, ends back at the starting point 01.
