Roadbook
We cross the Saggaubach on the Johannesbrücke (with statue of St. John of Nepomuk), walk to the church (Maria in den Dornen, 1626) and start the hike on the square in front of the church. We hike either along the main street or between Lais butcher shop and Kloepferkeller uphill to the Oberer Markt, walk through it lengthwise, and see the Kreuzkirche (1672) and the long-distance hiker’s stone on the right side at the town exit. The main street finally merges into the Radlpass road B76, which we follow for about 2 km past the roundabout in Aibl. About 1 km after the roundabout, a sign points right (St. Anton); here, we cross the B76 (caution!) and the Auenbach and enter the settlement.
Now the path leads uphill into a forest, then to a meadow ridge with power poles as signposts. After passing a farmstead, we take the left uphill road, which soon turns into a path along the forest edge and finally leads to an asphalt road near the Hubertus chapel. We follow this to the right, past a wayside cross to the farm named Urch, and further to the Lienhart chapel at a road junction.
Here the path continues straight toward the forest. After a small pond, it goes uphill briefly; halfway up the slope, we turn left (!) (straight ahead would lead to the border, where one would have to follow the border to the left). Once reaching the large quarry, the path turns left toward the church St. Anton. A round walk around the church is worth it (nice view of Aibl and Eibiswald).
From the church, we go back to the end of the quarry. Here you can decide to hike back the same way to Eibiswald or continue to the Radlpass (taxi?) and complete the circular route in about 2.5 hours.
At the quarry, briefly turn right and then left at a newer house in a curve, hiking along the quarry and the state border to the Radlpass border crossing. Shortly before the border crossing, you can look back at the Antonikirche.
At Radlpass, the path first follows the asphalt road B76 downhill to the first hairpin turn (05/E6/Römerweg), where you turn right into the forest. Due to traffic, the road should be crossed at a clear spot before the hairpin.
After about 2 hours, you reach the farm named Proter (notable Proter chapel, information board). From here, there are three routes back to Eibiswald (no. 590, 05/E6/Turmbauerweg part 1, Turmbauerweg part 2). Historically interested hikers are recommended to take the 05/E6 path with the two Turmbauerkogels (turn right at Proter and later left into the forest). Those interested in chapels choose the second part of the Turmbauerweg, turning right at Proter, always along the asphalt road.
