The circular hiking trail marked "R1" by the ÖAV-OG Eibiswald leads from the church square in Eibiswald (361 m) or from the Upper Market over the Aichbergerkogel to the Ghf. Safran/vlg. Filatsch, down to Staritsch, up to the Aiblkogel (545 m), down to Aibl (375 m) and then back up over the Schwarzhofsiedlung (approx. 540 m) back to Eibiswald.
Note: The marking usually points in both directions and can sometimes also be found on the road surface.

Roadbook
We cross the Saggau on the Johannes Bridge (with statue of St. John of Nepomuk) or on the footbridge by the elementary school, walk to the church and start the hike here or at the Upper Market (signpost in town center).
First, we walk briefly westward; in front of a small church (Cross Church) on the right side of the street the path leads down to the right. Those who want can take a look into the church and straight ahead about 30 m away visit the stone for the long-distance hikers of the North-South Long-Distance Trail (05, Nebelstein - Eibiswald) in a small park. At the Cross Church, we go down to the right to the B76 (Radlpass federal road), cross it carefully, and soon turn right again. At a signpost, we pass the Eibiswald forestry supervision station on the left and then uphill to the Aichberger farmstead (formerly a castle). From here, there is a nice view of the NMS (formerly steelworks) located just below and the market.
We leave the Aichberger farmstead to the left and keep more to the right on the path between fields and forests. Back in the forest, there is soon a signpost pointing left. Coming out of the forest again, we walk over a hill past a beautiful wayside cross and keep more to the right. After reaching a house by an asphalt road, we go right towards Ghf. Safran/vlg. Filatsch. At the road fork shortly after, we turn left, and at another road fork with a wayside cross, we also go left. Soon we reach a fork in the forest leading to Buschenschank Garber with its observation tower. Those who want can make this detour to enjoy the beautiful view from the tower. Our path, however, continues straight ahead (do not take trail 05 left back down to Eibiswald!) and goes downhill in the forest without asphalt to Staritsch (towards Ghf. Bachseppl/Aiblkogel).
The trail leads across a meadow to information boards about a glass factory that used to be located here. Those who want can also make a detour on the left to the nearby Ghf. Bachseppl. However, the path leads right across the road to Soboth and uphill in the forest opposite (marking on the road!), through a farmstead to a vineyard. Here you should definitely go 200 m to the left to the cross on the Aiblkogel and enjoy the views. Back at the fork, we walk along the vineyard for a bit and then down to an asphalt road. This and the marking lead us down to Aibl (SPAR market nearby) and the B76.
We cross the B76 carefully, walk briefly right, and then immediately left uphill into the Schwarzhofsiedlung (also Schwartzhof, formerly a noble seat). After Schwarzhofsiedlung, the asphalt road goes uphill for some time, past the driveway to Haufenhof to a large gravel box.
At this box, the path leads left downhill (also marking 590) into the forest, and we soon reach the Matschnigg Chapel (paintings by Prof. Anton Hafner). Immediately after the chapel, the path leads right into the forest, further to a farmstead, and past it to the right into a densely settled area down to Eibiswald.
Shortly after the Eibiswald town sign, we see the extensive grounds of Eibiswald Castle. We walk right along the castle wall until a small passage (marking!) leads left to the castle. If the castle gate is open (on school days), you can take a look into the castle's arcaded courtyard. From the castle, the path leads straight past the State Vocational School for Electrical Engineering down to the Upper Market. To the right it goes to the church. Our extensive circular hike is complete.
