Safety information
Especially in autumn, it should also be noted that leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees can still topple or branches fall afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you think certain sections are impassable for you, you should bypass them.
NOTICE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where paths are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.
Roadbook
Route No. 7 starts at the Lolosruhe hiking parking lot and leads over the 608 m high "Platte", the highest elevation north of Lolosruhe. There is also an old surveying stone erected in 1939 by the Bavarian military for surveying the Palatinate.
On the section Morschenberg - Lolosruhe, the path runs about 600 m along an old border path of the former 4th and 5th Mittelhaingeraide. Five venerable boundary stones along the way testify to this and show the boundary marks of the Geraiden and municipalities; in this case, it is the forest boundary between Gommersheim (4th Mittelhaingeraide) and Kirrweiler (5th Mittelhaingeraide).
At the entrance to the south parking lot of Lolosruhe are the "Five Stones". The front stone is a meeting stone of the 4th and 5th Mittelhaingeraide. In addition to boundary marks, the stone also shows many signatures of officials in the Geraiden. In the codex of the "Rittersteine in the Palatinate Forest", the "Five Stones" are listed as No. 238.
Haingeraiden
The Haingeraiden were forest cooperatives. They emerged from the Frankish settlement in the early Middle Ages and were dissolved around 1826. They were considered a "sun fief", obligated only to the sun, God, and the Emperor. According to legend, the Geraiden are a gift from the Frankish Merovingian King Dagobert II (approx. 7th century) to his farmers on the Haardtrand, who supported him in hard distress and hid him under a hawthorn bush near Frankweiler, the Dagobertshecke, from his enemies. There were 19 such forest districts between Wanzenau in Upper Alsace and Bad Dürkheim.
