Starting point Rockenau, Neckar lock Stolzeneck Castle Wild Waibelsberg Heron Lake Heiligkreuzkirchlein Primeval forest trail Neckar lock From the Neckar lock, follow the Neckarsteig a short distance downstream and then go up to Stolzeneck Castle. Stolzeneck Castle is a well-preserved ruin that impresses visitors with its shield wall. The next section of the path is one of the most beautiful forest trails in the entire Odenwald. Above the path you come to a hut built into a rock overhang, from which you have a unique view of the Neckar valley. From the hut, we go back to the Neckarsteig and continue upwards to Heron Lake. At this idyllic forest lake, we leave the Neckarsteig and hike to Kirchel. Then we follow the OWK marking to the main trail and keep left there. At the following junction we turn right with the circular trail 4 and follow it down the primeval forest trail. Among countless boulders grow birch, hornbeam, linden, wild cherry, rowan, and hazel bush. At Stolzeneck Castle, we meet the Neckarsteig again and hike along the Neckar back to the starting point.
