The starting point of this route is Plätzwiese. On trail no. 33, you head briefly north to the south slope of Dürrenstein. Trail no. 33 is also part of the Dolomites High Route no. 3. Once at the south slope, take trail no. 40 and first climb over alpine meadows, then on well-marked rocky path sections to the summit of Dürrenstein.
The view awaiting us here is impressive: to the north, the Zillertal Alps and the High Tauern, to the east and south, the Sexten Dolomites, Monte Cristallo, and Hohe Gaisl.
The return route is the same as the outward route.
