Those seeking peace will find it on the route from Hausbach via Britten and back to Hausbach. The gentle rustling of the wind in the treetops and the soft babbling of the idyllic streams sound like music to the ears. Beautiful viewpoints and bizarre rock formations complement a hiking trail of silence and seclusion. The Jacobs farm offers a milk bar and a vending machine with farm-fresh products.

The hiking trail initially leads downhill to the Seffersbach flowing through the valley, which empties into the Saar in Merzig. Soon, wonderful views open up over pastures and old scattered orchards, and one gets the impression of walking through a tunnel as the path runs under hedges of elder bushes and hazelnut shrubs.

At the edge of the trail stand two old boundary stones. Shortly thereafter, the path narrows, passing a leafy tunnel for the second time before the hedges open to reveal a wonderful view of the meadow slopes.

The babbling Bornwiesbach seems to find its way in countless loops. Behind Britten, it becomes wild and romantic. In the nearby forest, one climbs along a crystal-clear stream. Only the loud splashing of the water can be heard.

At Schörnertskopf, the highest point of the hike, two sensory benches invite you to enjoy the dreamlike view over the forested, gentle hills. When descending, if the afternoon sun shines through the dense foliage, it enchants an impressive Buntsandstein (colored sandstone) wall with stunning plays of shadow. Then the trail leaves the forest and an idyllic meadow valley opens. The trail continues immediately at the forest edge over a soft carpet of meadow downhill towards Hausbach.

The Jacobs farm offers a milk bar and a vending machine with farm-fresh products.

The Waldsaumweg was rated with 72 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

The Waldsaumweg and Steinhauerweg are interconnected in Britten and can therefore be hiked together as a day route.

Just before the destination in Hausbach along the route is the Ackermann inn (Tel. 0 6872/61 78).

Halfway along the way, also directly on the path in Britten, is the inn "Zum Stausee" (Tel. 0 6872/1715).

    Roadbook

We start at the church in Hausbach heading towards the main street. Behind the church, it goes downhill towards Hausbach. Upon reaching the street "Im Hof", we follow it to the left until we reach a square. Here the path enters the forest and runs along a stream on a trail. Past the sports field, it continues along the stream and past the fish weir to the confluence at Borwiesbach, along whose winding loops of the stream bed we walk.

To the right into a wooded section. After this short detour, the path opens up to a wide meadow landscape. The Steinhauer village Britten is reached, and between gardens and houses, it goes in a zigzag course through the rural idyll. Then it continues, initially along fields, before the "Waldsaumweg" again dips into the forest. A hollow path leads up to the viewpoint "Schörnertskopf", from which one can see as far as the Vosges.

From the height, it goes downhill a little before walking again on a path between forest edge and meadow. A wonderful grass path guides hikers downhill towards Hausbach, whose church tower is already visible on the horizon. Then a stretch along residential houses until you reach the main street that leads us uphill back to the church.

Muss denn erst was passieren?
