A varied path through different forest formations and orchards full of idyllic moments. After an extensive forest hike, open meadows and fields with wonderful views and rest areas are on the program in the second part of the route.
Between the campsite and the equestrian centre at Girtenmühle, the route starts at the entrance portal. In the nearby forest, the track initially follows the course of the Panzbach. Along the Rotenbach and several times over stepping stones, the path winds like a dragon partly over rocky ground, partly soft forest soil or an interweaving of roots, gently uphill.
Behind an old quarry with a rest area, it goes downhill, initially in the forest, later along the edge of the forest. Between Bergen and Scheiden, the view opens up to Merzig and further into the Lorraine plateau area. The entrance to the nearby forest is via a wooden footbridge. In a continuous up and down, you reach the sensory bench above an old quarry with views over the Hochwald.
Along the Metzenbach, the path leads downhill. After crossing the stream, stepping boards and small wooden footbridges lead through a primeval forest-like woodland.
Above Bergen are sensory benches. From here you can enjoy the view over the forested hills of the surrounding area. Only a few metres from the viewpoint stands a small chapel on the roadside, which was built during the First World War in 1914/15.

Attention:
Entering the forest and walking the hiking trails is at your own risk!
Seasonal and weather-related increased surefootedness is required on some sections. Please wear clothing and hiking shoes with appropriate grip adapted to the season and weather. Carefulness is necessary due to broken branches and damaged trees. In strong winds as well as winter due to snow and ice, there is increased danger from falling trees and branches.

Roadbook
We start at Girtenmühle and go straight past the hotel-restaurant. After 50 m we follow an asphalt path to the left and reach a gate. Then we follow the asphalt path leading to the right. After about 100 m we turn right onto a forest path. We cross a stream and come across a wide forest road. From here, the Bergener follows the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig for 5 km. We go onto a narrow path that leads us along the stream. After a small ascent from the valley of the stream, we cross a forestry road. We reach another forestry road, go right and after a few meters again left onto a path that leads us to a beautiful pond. We cross the Rotenbach, reach a wide path and follow it.
After about 150 m, a path branches off to the left. We cross the stream via stepping stones and walk parallel to the stream. Then the path leads back to the wide gravel path, which we follow to the left, slightly uphill to a rock formation with resting benches. We now walk through changing forest formations until we can enjoy open fields with a phenomenal view. We walk slightly downhill along the edge of the forest through a light oak plot with views on both sides and a particularly beautiful view with 2 sensory benches. Shortly before the road, we walk a bit to the left, cross the road, and follow a field road to reach the forest. We cross two old quarries until we cross a stream after a small descent. We go left and after a few meters right to a viewpoint with a sensory bench. After 50 m the path splits. We follow a narrow path to the right, which after 100 m leads to a wide path. We walk on a path through a stream valley (which is also partly part of the Tafeltour).
We follow the path branching off to the right over the stream. After 100 m we reach a junction and then go left (still parallel to the Tafeltour). About 200 m after reaching open field, the path forks. The Tafeltour leads left to the reservoir. We now walk slightly uphill to the right. At the next fork, we go left past the edge of the forest with a nice view of the Losheimer Bach valley, until it turns right again into the forest through a rustic stream valley. It goes through a spruce stand until we cross a stream again, then we walk between pasture and forest with beautiful views. At a fork, we go left through an oak forest and reach an asphalt path. We follow this to the right and continue in a curve onto a path, first through a hedge, then along a biotope. After 200 m, it gently ascends to the right over a meadow. After the two sensory benches with a wonderful view, we reach an asphalt path and go left. Shortly behind a small chapel, it goes left over a meadow with few trees. Shortly before the first houses, we come across a path and go right. We reach a street, go right and after 40 m turn left onto the main road. Then we are at the village square with the Gasthaus Weins.
We cross the street and walk past Gasthaus Weins, then follow an asphalt path to the right. At a hedge, it goes left over a meadow. We reach a meadow path, which we follow. Behind a property with beehives, it goes left on a narrow path. We cross a stream and immediately follow a path to the left, which always runs parallel to the stream. After another stream crossing, we are already at the Girtenmühle campsite. We go straight ahead between tall hedges until we reach the restaurant with beer garden at the parking lot.
