In close contact with nature, hikers discover impressive rock formations along the rock path, experience natural elements on the barefoot path, and cross "babbling" streams on stepping stones. The archaic Römerburg with its eerie Celtic sanctuary on the roadside culturally enriches the path.

The rock path is located in the Losheim districts of Scheiden and Waldhölzbach. Massive rock formations, spectacular views, two romantic stream valleys, the “Römerburg” with remains of a medieval castle complex, a Celtic sanctuary, two Kneipp facilities, the beautifully situated barefoot path, some newly created forest paths, and numerous orchard meadows: boredom does not arise on this eventful hike.

The path was chosen as Hiking Trail of the Year 2005. The rock path was rated with 100 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

    Attention:

Entering the forest and hiking the trails is fundamentally at your own risk!

Due to seasonal or weather conditions, increased surefootedness is required on certain path sections. Please wear clothing and hiking boots with appropriate soles adapted to the season and weather. Be cautious of breaking branches and damaged trees. During strong winds and in winter due to snow and ice, the risk from falling trees and dropping branches increases.

    Roadbook

Just right of the church we pass through the portal and after a small climb reach the first viewpoint and the first rock formation. We then follow a path branching off to the right, which slowly winds downhill towards the Hölzbach valley and in the last section runs parallel to the valley. We come across a gravel road and see the Hölzbach in front of us, which we cross via a wooden bridge and stepping stones. We reach a path and continue left along the stream bank until we reach the Kneipp forest facility with a shelter and the round rock. Behind the Kneipp facility, we hike on the left side of the stream, steadily ascending. Eventually, we come across a sharply left-turning uphill path in the increasingly narrow valley, which we follow. In a large right bend we leave the wide path to the left at a clearing. At a junction, we follow the opposite ancient path (where we see several historical boundary stones), marking the border between Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Then the idyllic Lannenbach valley appears ahead of us. We descend to the stream and follow the path accompanying the stream downhill. We cross the stream via a small bridge and come to the shelter “Scheider Bahnhof.” We go to the right and then turn onto a forest path running along the right bank of the stream and a narrow footpath leading down to the stream and along its right bank. When the Bear Rock appears on the opposite bank to the left, it is time to cross the stream on stepping stones and follow the wide path to the right and then left into the rugged rock world. First steeply uphill to the rock and finally down again on a washed-out path at a rock wall to the Kneipp facility and a small pond. Shortly thereafter, we cross Eichenlaubstraße.

We hike across open fields and see the village of Scheiden on the right on a hill. At a clearing, a narrow path branches off to the left, leading uphill. Finally, we reach the Adelsfelsen with a magnificent view. Now we follow a narrow path running steeply downhill. Eventually, we reach a path leading us out of the forest. We follow the path along a pasture enclosure, into the forest and along the Lannenbach. On the right we see the first rocks, and through the valley there is a path leading up to the left to a rock formation popularly called the "Römerburg". On top of the rock, foundations of a medieval castle can be seen. From there, another path leads steeply downhill again on the right and after 400 m to a ridge with a small group of rocks that served as a cult site for the Celts. Around these rocks, it goes downhill again back to the valley where we see the pond below. We follow the path to the right until we come to a bridge over the stream. We cross the bridge and follow a path up to the Schlangenfels. After a pasture gate, we hike left uphill to the village of Scheiden. Now we go straight ahead for about 250 m through a residential area. At the top, we come to a cross street. Here on the left, we already see two benches for contemplation, which form the most beautiful viewpoint of the route.

We then follow a path running parallel to an asphalt field road, lined with fruit trees, with continuously magnificent views. We come to a junction with an old fruit tree and a bench and follow the path straight ahead, gently downhill. Shortly before entering the forest, a forest path branches off to the left, which we follow. Now it goes straight ahead through the forest. At the edge of the forest, we reach a wide orchard meadow with wonderful views and follow a field path to the right. At the end of an enclosure, turn left onto a meadow path, where after a few meters we turn right into the forest and follow a slightly downhill hollow way with beech trees until we reach a broader path. We cross the path and then follow the switchbacks downhill into the Lannenbach valley until we cross the Lannenbach on a wooden footbridge.

We reach a gravel path, keep right and hike through a long valley. Eventually, we reach a side road. In the valley, it bends right into a stream valley with a wetland biotope. Shortly before an asphalt path, a small bridge leads left onto a path through beech forest. We enter a meadow path with beautiful distant views. The path then descends into a quaint stream valley on the slope above the stream course. We cross the stream and reach an open valley with a fishing pond and a shelter. We follow the path past the shelter along the barefoot path and after 500 m reach the starting point, the country inn Forellenhof.
