The meadows in the Simmerbach valley are the ideal contrast to the rocky sections of the trail further along the hike. In Ravengiersburg, the Hunsrück cathedral sits enthroned on a rocky plateau. Scenic views between Oppertshausen and Schönborn in the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park round off the hiking experience. A circular trail leads from the DOMBLICK viewpoint to the Hunsrück Cathedral.

Behind Ohlweiler, the hiking trail leads along the wide bends of the stream past natural meadows into the scenic Simmerbach valley. From a sensory bench on a hill at the edge of the forest, the view sweeps to the Hunsrück Cathedral. It towers over the center of the village of Ravengiersburg on a rock massif in a loop of the Simmerbach. The cathedral can be reached after 500 meters via an access path.

The trail has been awarded 68 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

    Author’s recommendation

The Hunsrück Cathedral in Ravengiersburg was built as a castle on the steep rock above the Simmerbach in the 10th century. A castle chapel was consecrated in 1072. The towers of the cathedral are a 42-metre-high westwork, which is decorated with numerous reliefs and sculptures.

A circular route to the Hunsrück Cathedral:
From the DOMBLICK vantage point, the road leads along a meadow path and a section of the main road to the left through Mühlengasse to the steps leading up to the Hunsrück Cathedral. There is a wonderful panoramic view of the landmark building and the beautiful surroundings. From the cathedral, the path leads us downhill to the Protestant church through Untergasse to cross the Simmerbach stream. After the Simmerbach bridge, we hike a short ascent to the Panoramaweg and Schinderhannespfad. We return to the Domblick dream loop via the former pastor's path.

On the hill between Oppertshausen and Schönborn, there is a sensory bench at the edge of the forest from which you can enjoy a wide view over the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park to the rolling hills of the Soonwald.

    Roadbook

The Domblick dream loop begins at the Simmerbach bridge on the main road in Ohlweiler. The trail follows the course of the Simmerbach stream below the weekend area through the beautiful stream valley towards Ravengiersburg. A narrow path leads over the Eselsberg hill to the crossing of the Verschbach stream, then again along the Simmerbach stream until a climb into the side valley of the Bustenbach stream and around a small wooded area takes us to the entrance to Belgweiler.

We circle the small village in a downhill arc until we reach the center of the village and cross the Simmerbach again on a wide bridge. Immediately after the bridge, meadows once again accompany the path down into the valley, which finally climbs steeply up a rocky path. From the hill, there is a panoramic view of the Hunsrück Cathedral on its rocky massif in a loop of the Simmerbach stream above the narrow streets of Ravengiersburg town center. The viewpoint invites you to linger!

The hiking trail remains on the hill and, after crossing the road, turns into the Oberbrunnenwald forest, leading along a narrow path to the edge of the forest and along it. Wonderful views of the Soonwald forest with its small villages at its feet accompany the trail. Passing the outskirts of Oppertshausen and heading towards Schönborn, the wonderful view of the Soonwald Nature Park remains with us, and in the direction of Kirchberg there are magnificent views over the Hunsrück heights as far as the Erbeskopf.

Before Schönborn, the path branches off to the right to the district road, then towards the cemetery. The route heads downhill again into a side valley of the Simmerbach stream, past fish ponds with their tributaries and a short ascent to the Batzenbusch forest area. After crossing the Batzenbusch, it is not far down to a meadow path to Ohlweiler and back to the starting point.

Note on the access route to the starting point of the DOMBLICK dream loop in Ohlweiler

The access route from the Hotel Bergschlößchen leads via the Ausoniusweg to the Indianerpfahl, from where a short, narrow path meets the Schinderhannes cycle path. The route follows this path for a short distance over the old railroad bridge. At the end of the bridge, a steep flight of steps leads to the path along the banks of the Simmerbach to cross under the B 50. Following this path through the Wiesental valley, the route runs along the edge of the forest to the end of a continuous section of woodland. After crossing the Simmerbach stream, the trail reaches the edge of the village of Ohlweiler via a meadow path. From there, it is just a few meters to the Simmerbach bridge on the main road and the starting point of the DOMBLICK dream loop.
