The dream loop leads past various streams through wild and romantic valleys.
Parallel to the Dhron, the trail begins by climbing slightly uphill across meadows. In the "Im Hellerwald" district, you walk through a sparse Douglas fir forest and a little later you pass an old slate gallery. Shortly before Unternaurath, there is a fantastic view over the Dhron valley and the Hunsrück heights. On the outskirts of Unternaurath is a chapel made of slate quarry stones and quartz slate from the 17th century.
After Obernaurath, you first walk through the pastureland around the village. The path leads towards the edge of the forest. There you pass the district boundary "In die Gruv" between Mehring in the Moselle valley and Naurath in the Hunsrück. The trail descends to the source of the Schastelbach stream. Before you reach the "12 Apostles", you come to the Fledermaus tunnel. The old slate tunnel is barred. Just a few meters away from the tunnel, 14 Douglas fir trees reach over 50 meters into the air. This spot is popularly known as the "12 Apostles".
The trail has been certified with 72 points by the German Hiking Institute.
Author’s recommendation
Thanks to the 3,000 trees and shrubs planted in autumn 2020, the Naurath field is now also an attractive habitat for insects and birds, thus helping to preserve biodiversity.

Roadbook
After a short dip into the forest for a 30 m descent, we follow the course of a meadow slightly uphill. At the end of the path, we then cross the K87 and walk uphill on a wide forest path that leads us through coniferous and deciduous forest. Here begins a varied passage through coniferous and deciduous forests over soft forest and meadow paths, zig-zagging through a beech forest. The trail continues past five mighty Douglas firs - the "5 of the 12 Apostles" - and then follows the signs towards "Schastebachtal".
At kilometer 6, we reach the area of the old ore mine, today home to various species of bats. An information board tells us about the history of the mine, the valley and the "12 Apostles". There is also a small rest hut here, which we leave to the right and enter the forest again. We turn right at the small bridge, enjoy impressive views of the Hunsrück mountain ranges on the following longer uphill section and reach the municipal boundary of Mehring a little later.
We now walk back towards Naurath/Wald along a soft forest and meadow path, and later along forest paths. After a few hundred meters, the trail climbs slightly uphill through a beech forest before crossing the border into the Naurath district. The path continues across meadows with an unobstructed view of the village. We return to the village via a meadow path and turn right at the first opportunity in the residential area onto the road "Im Wiesengrund", which we follow for not too long before turning right again onto a meadow path.
Here we cross the football pitch and playground and reach the main road, which we walk along briefly before turning right along a narrow path. The medieval rock chapel, the jewel of the local community, invites us to take a short break. We walk alongside the chapel and turn right onto the main road. In a small bend on the right, the road turns into Mühlenweg, which we follow until we reach another crossroads, where we turn right again onto a meadow path. We now zigzag for almost 3 km through the idyllic, enchanted forest, passing a slate cave, the Friedenbachtal valley and the Bruchbach stream. We follow the narrow paths downhill. Along lush meadows, we enjoy the view of the small Dhron.
Finally, we return to the access path through a sparse deciduous forest, which leads us gently downhill for 300 meters back to the hiking parking lot on the L148 - the starting and finishing point of our hike.
