Between Lake Tenno and the Concei Valley, the Garda mountains reach considerable heights. This is the Gaverdinakamm ridge. The highest peak is Dosso della Torta. Along the entire ridge – up to the Bocca di Trat – the front line between Austrian and Italian troops ran during the First World War. The "Sentiero della Pace" trail runs along the entire ridge in memory of this. Besides the general hiking experience and the magnificent panoramic views that extend to the Brenta and Adamello mountains, there is especially delightful flora for lovers of alpine plants: countless gentians and the otherwise rare edelweiss. Above all, the alpine meadows of Malga Nardiso on the ascent overwhelm us with their floral splendor in late spring.
From the parking lot in Ballino, we first hike 500 meters along the road towards Ponte Arche, until a signposted alpine trail branches off to the left (Mark.-No. 420). We then follow this for 1 hour and 45 minutes in wide switchbacks uphill. At the end of the developed section, the broad path curves and leads onto a narrow, somewhat exposed trail crossing the mountain slope in a slight descent towards the southeast. We now ascend higher through shady forest in switchbacks and reach the alpine meadows after another hour of walking. Far above, we already see the beautifully located Malga Nardiso at 1784 meters. After about 30 minutes, we reach it. Here we encounter a fork in the trail. We keep left (still marked No. 420) and now hike fairly level along a wide curve through alpine meadows sprinkled with gentians in spring and through larch bushes over to the steeply falling Dosso della Torta. Heinrich Bauregger, geboren 1951 im Berchtesgadener Land, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte (M.A.). Nach seinem Studium war er viele Jahre in Buchverlagen tätig (unter anderem auch beim Rother Bergverlag). Von Kindheit an in den Bergen wandernd unterwegs, lebte er seine Passion zunächst in den Alpen aus, dann folgten zahlreiche Trekkingtouren in den Bergen der Welt (Himalaya, Ostafrika, Mexiko, Anden). Schließlich entdeckte er die Abruzzen (Mittelitalien) als seine zweite Heimat („Tra Mare e Monti“). Heute lebt er abwechselnd in München und in Sulmona als freier Lektor und Autor. Er hat zahlreiche erfolgreiche Wander-, Rad- und Reisebücher verfasst.
