The marked trail leads along the Kleinbodenbach stream up to the beginning of the Melkboden. At the second crossing of the stream, it is best to stay in the gravel of the stream bed up to a gorge-like, clearly pronounced channel that comes down from the right side of the Gläserkogel. In this initially wide channel, you first climb about 40 meters up to a narrowing on whose right side the dwarf pines reach far down. There, a hunting trail comes in from the left, which continues to the right up the dwarf pine slope. The entrance is not very clearly visible. Once you have found the entrance, you follow the well-cut dwarf pine corridor upwards to the right. A trail fork appears where you keep to the right. After some elevation gain, you cross a very steep, grass-covered gully to the right and then continue climbing along the mountain ridge. Near the lowest point, you reach the Grießleitensattel saddle. From there, it is only about 50 meters slightly downhill to an unmarked trail, on which the somewhat strenuous ascent to the Donnerwand continues to the right.
From the summit of the Donnerwand, you first go in the direction of the Grasbodenalm, briefly descend left of the dwarf pines to a cairn that marks the beginning of the trail through a dwarf pine corridor. You follow this along the ridge to the Kl. Waxenegg and from there descend to the Taborsattel saddle. From the Taborsattel, you go down over the alpine meadow to a hunting hut and further down to a forest road. On the forest road, you return to the starting point.
The GPS track does not have to be followed exactly at the beginning of the Melkboden. It is best to stay in the gravel of the stream bed and, in low water conditions, go directly to the channel from there.
