The Franz-Josefs-Warte rises on Steinerwegberg, the second highest peak of the Leitha Mountains. The Kaisereiche is also located here – often used synonymously for the mountain peak – which commemorates the emperor's visit in 1839. The hike starting from Donnerskirchen offers the advantage of good accessibility by train and has only very moderate inclines over long stretches.
From Donnerskirchen train station, we walk through Bahnstraße to the intersection of Federal Road 50 with the main street (here is the bus stop). Continuing straight ahead, we reach an intersection where the B 15 branches off to the left towards Hof am Leithagebirge. We still walk straight ahead, uphill along the main street, until after a total of 50 minutes from the station we reach its end at the forest edge by a large rest and children's playground. Here two deeply cut valleys come together; we will return later through the left one.Next to the playground, we turn into the right valley. A red marker leads towards Mannersdorf (signpost) through the not hellish but rather idyllic Teufelsgraben (Devil's Ravine). A little stream babbles downhill beside us; we cross it and then keep right uphill. Passing by a fish pond, we ascend gently, then the marker runs right at a junction a little steeper uphill.
