A very exciting and scenic loop trail. The route is challenging but well worth it. Bring sun cream and headgear and plenty of water. Much of the route is free of trees and shade and there are no water sources.
Starting near the Sapienza hut, we ascend along the wonderful donkey's back path (if necessary, we can make a small diversion from the path to visit the nearby Pythagoras Cave), until we reach the panoramic ridge overlooking the Bove valley. One ascends along this ridge until arriving at the foot of the mound. From here, we continue on to the Cisternazza crater and the Barbagallo craters of 2001 to reach the base point of Torre del Filosofo. We return by following the route along the cable car and passing by the Sapienza refuge before returning to the car park.
