The short version of the circuit is 3.5 km and does not pass directly near the Samaritaine pond. The long version of the circuit is 5 km and goes through both the heart of the village and the surroundings of the Samaritaine pond.
Park in the parking lot of the Proxy in Buzancy, Rue Dom Mabillon, 08240 Buzancy OR at the Samaritaine campground, Avenue du Parc, 08240 Buzancy
Along the circuit, marked by stencils on the ground with one of Buzancy's emblems, 10 information stations explain the history and local heritage. This charming village still holds the remains and architecture of two castles that have each had many owners.
A descriptive itinerary sheet is available at the Tourist Office to make sure you don't miss anything on the route.
(D/A) Departure from the Proxy parking lot, pass the sign and go left towards the church. At the start, we invite you to read information panel No. 1.
(1) At the entrance to the garden in front of the church are panels No. 2 and No. 3. Then descend towards the church and read panel 4. Take the stairs, enter and admire the church.
Then take the small lane called the Cour Castle path to the right of the historic monument. Continue straight ahead to the cemetery.
(2) Before entering the cemetery, read panel No. 5. Cross it and exit through the small door on the opposite side. Turn right onto Rue du Mahomet. A panel No. 6 about the legend of Mahomet is available.
Walk down this street, then make a round trip to the right to the Cour Castle or Chanzy Castle where panel 7 tells its story. Return to Rue du Mahomet and continue to an intersection with Rue du Charme.
(3) Go down Rue du Charme to the right. Leave a street on your right, then continue on the Clef des Champs path. Pass in front of the lion gate of Chanzy Castle. Reach Place Napoléon III.
(4) Cross the intersection towards panel No. 8 at the House of the Octroi. Continue straight on Rue des Barrières. At the crossing, go straight through the castle lane. Reach the outbuildings of the former Augeard Castle and learn more at panel No. 9. Walk inside the enclosure before going back and continuing on the small grassy path.
(5) At the intersection before the Samaritaine pond: continue straight on the grassy path along the pond (long version 5 km) or turn left to head back towards the village (short version 3.5 km). A second panel No. 9 about the castle's history is also here.
Long version: continue along the grassy path to the Samaritaine campground. At the campground entrance, emerge to the right onto Avenue du Parc lined with trees and go up the avenue.
(6) Continue straight on Allée des Étangs. Then turn right onto Rue Nouvelle towards the square.
(7) Pass in front of the town hall and reach the center of the large square to admire it and enjoy panel No. 10.
Then head back towards the church to conclude the route.
