Roadbook
From the hiking parking lot, which is located on the outskirts of Dill on the K2 towards Niedersohren, the tour initially leads left over the K2 onto a meadow path towards the forest. At the next signpost we can decide whether we want to cool our feet briefly at the water treading area, which is less than 100 meters away, or follow the dream loop directly uphill to the left.
After a long stretch along the edge of the forest, we turn left into the forest. Finally, we follow the signs in the forest and enjoy the pleasant freshness that the forest offers.
We leave the forest, cross the K1 and come to a panoramic viewpoint where we can look out over the Hunsrück landscape and the Soonwald forest. A few hundred meters further on, we catch a wonderful view of the Dill castle ruins, the former vicarage and the Protestant church. We then turn left. Our gaze wanders again along the fields to the Soonwald forest. On a clear day, you can even make out the ruins of Koppenstein Castle on the ridge of the Soonwald. A short time later, we reach the Heckerwies rest area. There is a large slate board with seating. This place is perfect for a first rest.
From the rest area, the path follows the Hunsrückhöhenweg for a short distance before we turn left after a few hundred meters and cross the road. The path leads down into the valley and into the forest. The further we walk down the valley, the louder we can hear the rushing of the stream. At the bottom of the valley, we leave the forest path. Now begins a very natural passage. The dream loop leads along a narrow path alongside the Sohrbach stream until we cross the water via several stepping stones. There is a short detour from the path passage on flood days. This is permanently signposted on site.
After crossing the stream, the Traumschleife leads for around 700 meters through the idyllic stream valley, past rock faces and meadow landscapes. The path then turns left into the forest. The path leads steadily uphill for a short time along an exciting path. At the top, we are rewarded with a fantastic view of the Idarkopf. There we can take a break at the sensory bench and enjoy the beautiful view and the relaxing peace and quiet. The path continues along the edge of the forest for a few meters before turning right into the forest. The dream loop leads us along a narrow path on a former forest path through a shady section of forest past a former sand pit.
After crossing the K2 again, the path leads deeper into the forest. On the soft carpet of moss, we walk as if on clouds. Once we reach the edge of the forest, we leave the forest and follow the signs. The path leads past extensive fields and along a meadow orchard. After a short climb, we reach the Roman tower. The nine-metre-high tower is a reconstruction of a Roman watchtower. Here we can enjoy the unique atmosphere at a seating area and reach the observation level of the Roman watchtower via a wooden rung ladder and admire the wonderful view over Dill with its striking castle ruins. At this point, we meet the route of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium long-distance hiking trail, which we now follow for a long time.
The trail now leads slightly downhill along Ausoniusstraße, a reconstructed Roman road, and later past the former mill race towards Dill. A section of the original road can still be seen here.
Once in Dill, the dream loop leads through the town center with its idyllic half-timbered houses to the highlight of the tour - the castle ruins.
After the detour, the Traumschleife continues downhill onto the village road, which we follow for a while until the path leads left over a small stone bridge uphill into the gardens. There, shortly before the end of the tour, we can enjoy another wonderful view of the Dill castle ruins and the half-timbered houses below. The dream loop takes us along a meadow path to the local road. Just cross over to the other side of the road and we are almost at the finish point, which is also the starting point.
