Stimulating and challenging hike in the Solothurn Jura.
The ascent is via the difficult NW ridge. For the descent, two options are available: difficult via Dilitsch or easier back via the restaurant Hinter Weissenstein.
Author’s recommendation
For the descent, the route via Hinter Weissenstein (possibility to stop for refreshment), the Hammerweg, can also be chosen.
Depending on the season, a cow pasture with mother cows must be crossed. Caution: keep dogs on a leash and maintain distance from the cows and calves.

Roadbook
After a slightly steeper ascent over meadows, you reach the forest edge at P.822 and enter the Schmelziwald at P.853, through which the small road leads only moderately uphill. Just before the narrow section (tunnel), the gorge of the Rüschbach, you follow this track leading up to the ridge. Almost flat and wide here the ridge - still; soon it steepens after a section on the clear path that also leads to Hinter Weissenstein slightly below the ridge. Without a trail, you ascend a few more meters up the back, then follow a faint track towards the first ridge rocks - it definitely gets steep now; sometimes it goes over simple rocks, often it bypasses them. Where the bold ridge is overgrown with too many trees, you leave the scrambling aside - moreover, not all sections are very stable, it must be checked very carefully whether all possible holds are really solid. If this is the case, the light scrambling on the Dilitschchopf NW Ridge is enjoyable - unfortunately, with increasing duration, the often nearly vertical walls are hardly visible anymore.
As the ridge walk continues, the terrain levels off, the last section runs with gentle ups and downs through often dense young forest. Soon, the highest point of the Dilitschchopf is not far.
The descent northwards leads over a narrow path, which is also marked on the national map. However, some intuition or familiarity with map reading is required to recognize the turnoff.
If Gänsbrunnen is reached, a stopover in Gänsbrunnen is recommended.
