On the south-eastern edge of the Rothaargebirge, the Sackpfeife towers above the surrounding area despite its low height, allowing you to enjoy a comprehensive panorama from the historic observation tower. Built in 1913 in honor of the emperor, the tower has been renovated several times in the past and is open to the public for a small donation. The leisure center attracts visitors to the Sackpfeife with all kinds of attractions, especially at the weekend. This is also when the Lahn-Eder Hut of the Oberhessischer Gebirgsverein opens its doors.
At the Didoll hiking parking lot, 570 m, within sight of the inn of the same name, we head east and follow the slate path marked X23 into the forest. After a few minutes, the asphalt road turns into a forest path, which takes us leisurely up and down towards our destination, with occasional views. A short path leads down to a small road, 520 m, which marks the halfway point of the Sackpfeifen ascent. Consistently following the X symbol, after a short steep section we reach a triangle of paths with a view of the observation tower (→ variant). Now we stroll leisurely over to the hut and the traditional lookout on the Sackpfeife, 674 m. After paying a small donation, the tower offers a fantastic panorama over the mountains on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. We then hike back along the same path to the Didoll hiking parking lot, 570 m.
