Crickets chirp, fireflies sparkle like stars over the campsite – the Gjipë Canyon with its steep rock walls and wide sandy beach is a special place. Except for the off-road vehicles of the bar and campsite operators, it can only be reached on foot. From the tourist town of Dhërmi, it takes less than two hours to reach this gem, which offers routes for sport climbers. After about two-thirds of the way, you reach the recently restored Shën Theodhorit Monastery with a wonderful view.
We walk along the promenade of Dhërmi until behind the Palladium Hotel Dhermi, where a dry stream bed between walls flows into the beach. We continue another 50 m on the beach and pass a fenced property. At its end, we turn left and meet a path at the forest edge. We follow it uphill along bunkers. After about 600 m, we reach the upper end of the cliff and shortly afterwards enjoy the magnificent view up to the Llogara Pass. Here we follow the path southeast inland.After just under 200 m, at an area often used as a parking lot, we turn right onto a path and then climb two wide switchbacks to the monastery after a gate. Although the markings suggest walking around the monastery on the left, this is not recommended, as debris from renovation work was dumped there. It is better to go around to the right to the parking lot and from there on the paved path to the left to the entrance of Manastiri i Shën Theodhorit.The paved access road takes us downhill to an intersection.
