The Darßer Ort in the core zone of the national park grows 10 m into the sea each year due to dynamic sedimentation processes. The hike begins at the fine sandy north beach of Prerow and then leads through the sedimentation zone to the untouched west beach, which, although it has many excursionists and bathers, has neither a house nor a beach chair. From the lighthouse at Darßer Ort, the area can be wonderfully overlooked from a bird's-eye view.
We start in Prerow at the Edeka supermarket near the Prerow Mitte bus stop. Opposite the supermarket entrance, we enter the pedestrian path "Im Schüning" and after 200 m reach a paved dike path in front of a playground. We continue left on it and pass the open-air stage and shortly after the sea rescue station. Directly after this, we turn right onto a beautifully paved path with brick stones leading to the pedestrian bridge over the Prerowstrom. From the bridge, there is a romantic view of the former sea arm. After the bridge, we reach the north beach. The busy summer beach stretches in a wide crescent shape to Darßer Ort. After about three-quarters of an hour of barefoot walking along the wash zone, we reach the core zone of the national park. A path leads us inland to a viewing platform (with benches) at Ottosee about 100 m away, from which there is a retrospective view of the kilometers-long beach.
