This is a short, flat path accessible to everyone, requiring no extraordinary effort. Or maybe it does, connected with its name and its history. "Dark Path" corresponds to a scenario of past and hopefully never to return horrors. The Dark Path leads through a large forest area where the inhabitants of Märkisch Buchholz fled when the last encirclement battle of World War II raged in their area. Along the path are many information boards pointing to notable places from those dreadful days:
- Tour plan at the start
- Shrapnel tree
- Reports from affected persons
- Spring
- Dam over the Dahme
- Stele at the cemetery
- Cemetery with graves from this period
It was a peculiarly peaceful hike, finishing with the wish that there will never again be reason to establish such a path.

Roadbook
Mix of forest and meadow paths, all are easily walkable. The trail marking is good (black arrow on cyan background with white lettering). Only at one point after about 6.6 km, if the route starts from the Franz Fühmann Memorial, does the marking arrow point exactly between two diverging paths. Take the leftmost path, as also shown on the map in the hiking booklet. Or simply follow my track, clear.
Along the way, I only saw two benches, no rest areas. Well, the trail is not that long.
Public transport
Public transport consists only of the bus, e.g., Königs Wusterhausen - Märkisch Buchholz.Parking
There are sufficient parking spaces at the official starting point as well as at the cemetery if starting there.Coordinates

Equipment
No special equipment is necessary. However, all provisions and drinks should be brought along, as there are only dining options in Märkisch Buchholz. There, directly by the trail, is the nice small inn "Buchholzer Stübchen" (corner of Friedrichstraße - Breite Straße).Localization
