The Dachstein region has not only been designated as a UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage site, but for decades it has also been doing everything at the Hoher Dachstein to increase its appeal to everyone. For example, at the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car at Hunerkogel, the Sky Walk—an airy but completely safe viewing platform offering a kind of thrill—and the Ice Palace just a few minutes away, a walk through ice with a spectacular glacier crevasse view, have been created. Furthermore, on beautiful summer days, the flow of hikers from the mountain station over the Hallstätter Glacier to the Dachsteinwarte does not cease. This offers an overwhelming view into the massive Dachstein south face. Additionally, here is the exit of the famous Dachstein south face via ferrata "Johann".
From the mountain station at Hunerkogel, we descend a staircase to the firn field of the Hallstätter Glacier and then follow the wide, groomed track straight to the lowest point of our glacier walk at Dirndlkolk, an amazing, wind-shaped, enormous funnel at the northeast base of the Niederen Dirndl. Behind it, we ascend in a wide left curve onto a glacier plateau and reach the inconspicuous Dachsteinwarte in a few minutes, where the low building of the Seethaler Hut nestles against the rocks. The return route to the mountain station follows the ascent path.
