This hike crosses the beautiful summit Cuolm da Latsch and descends through the originally preserved mountain village of Stugl/Stuls. Here, one should not miss visiting the charming little church and admiring the exquisite Gothic frescoes from the 14th century. "Giotto in the mountain village" writes the Graubünden local historian Erhard Meier in this context. The frescoes indeed remind one in form and color of the important Florentine painter Giotto di Bondone (1266 – 1337).
From Latsch our path leads over meadows in a long traverse along the slope to the forest. Through this, one walks in wide switchbacks on a comfortable alpine path. At a junction, 2039 m, turn left and on a narrow path to Cuolm da Latsch, 2296 m (cairn), on a wide high plateau. Due to its advanced position, the insignificant summit offers an unusually beautiful view. Particularly impressive is the close-up view of significant peaks of the Albula Alps such as Piz Kesch, Piz Blaisun, and the "Bergüner Stöcke" (Piz Ela, Tinzenhorn, Piz Mitgel). The descent runs northwest over the broad ridge into the forest and to a path junction. (Straight ahead and down lead shorter paths to Latsch.) We do not want to miss Stugl, keep right, and reach a wide alpine path that comfortably leads down to Stugl/Stuls, 1551 m. Slightly above, parallel to the road, we return to Latsch.
