In early summer, we enjoy the shade of a diverse forest during the ascent, while from the summit we have a fantastic 360-degree panorama of the Valserine, as well as the plateau and the mountains of the southeastern Jura all the way to Mont Blanc. On the way down, we pass through meadows filled with beautiful blooming flowers.
From the parking lot at Borne au Lion, we walk a few meters further along the closed gravel road to the information center, which provides information about the historical significance of this place; beautiful blue thistles (also known as Alpine milk thistle or Alpine thistle) have been planted here. From this spot, we can also enjoy a magnificent view of the High Jura mountains to the east. To the left, slightly below us, is the Borne au Lion, an old boundary stone from 1613 bearing the faded coats of arms of France, Spain, and Savoy. At the trail junction near the information center, we take the gravel forest road marked with white-and-red GR markers all the way to the right toward Giron for about 250 m into the forest. At the next fork, we keep left toward Crêt de Chalam. In a beautiful spruce forest, a long, sometimes steep ascent begins.
