The area around Canazei, the heart of the Fassa Valley-Ladinia, offers the active holidaymaker a rarely rich tour program. A visit to the Ciampac basin, which is accessible by a modern large gondola from Alba, is particularly rewarding. This beautiful alpine meadow has lost much of its former charm due to the construction of lifts and guesthouses. However, the Collàc circuit is still one of the recommended undertakings. It is completely dominated by the magnificent Marmolada and eventually leads to the Contrintal, praised for its beauty, with its dreamlike meadows and the ever-present view of the Langkofel.
From Penia, take the Ciampac small cabin lift up to the mountain station – with an impressive view to the north and northeast of the giants of the Langkofel and Sella groups – and ascend southwards on trail no. 644 to a junction. To the left, follow the marked path no. 613 over mountain pastures and scree slopes up southwards to a beautiful meadow, then ascend a steep slope in switchbacks eastwards to the Forcia Neigra, 2530 m. Beyond, turn right on trail no. 613 into the east flank of Sass Neigher and descend on a steep mountainside, later ascend over easy rocks (wire cables, iron clamps) to the saddle between Torre Dantone and Sass Neigher. Below Sass de Rocca, along grassy slopes, descend into the hollow of Pian de Mez, which you bypass in a left curve at a junction. This leads to a rocky height on the southeast ridge of Sasso Bianco. Just left of the ridge descend southeastwards to the Passo di San Nicolò, 2338 m, and continue to the Rifugio Passo di San Nicolò, 2340 m. On trail no.
