The Col Perdu (Bocca Tumasginesca) marks the transition from Ascotal to Niolu and offers a magnificent view of the Cirque de la Solitude (Basin of Solitude), one of the wildest and most remote high mountain valleys of Corsica. Until 2016, the GR 20 ran here – but after a landslide in the Cirque de la Solitude, the GR 20 was rerouted.
The hiking trail leads from Haut-Asco initially up the ski slope and after a few minutes turns left before the stream onto a path. After half an hour, we ignore a left-branching path, then cross a field of boulders and reach a plateau (where a path from the lift track joins). The path now runs comfortably downstream. After a total of 1¼ hours, we reach a left turn marked by a red arrow, here continue left on the former GR 20 (right is the ascent option to Bocca Stranciacone, 1987 m, ½ hour). Shortly afterwards, the path climbs steeply and stonily. After a good half hour, we pass a scree terrace where the Altore hut once stood (to the left of the path, foundations still visible). The path then leads briefly down to a valley hollow with two tiny tarns and then turns to the left valley side to ascend over scree and rocks, and well into the summer also over snowfields, completely to the Col Perdu (Bocca Tumasginesca) (partly light scrambling, ¾ hour from Altore plateau).
