The fifth largest island of the archipelago, located east of Guernsey, offers an astonishing variety of landscapes and coasts on an area of just 2 x 0.8 kilometers: rocky coast, sandy beaches with clear water, and dune belts. The circular route offers variety and tranquility; most day visitors travel between the harbor and the island's main beach. The path infrastructure dates back to a former German tenant of the island from the early 20th century: Gebhard Blücher von Wahlstatt, a descendant of the Prussian field marshal Blücher from the Napoleonic Wars era. At that time, he also settled a kangaroo colony on the island, which unfortunately did not survive.
At Herm Harbour, blue signs point in different directions; we go right towards Rosaire Steps with an indicated walking time of 7 minutes, where excursion boats dock at low tide. From Rosaire Steps, there is a wide view over the rocky islets before Herm and across to Guernsey. Above the landing and the stairs, the marked South Cliff Coast Path Belvoir Bay branches off to the south, initially over steps and later on a well-maintained path with views around the secluded southern tip of Herm.As before, we ignore the left-turning paths at the picturesque Belvoir Bay with a refreshment option (> Variant 1) and follow the coastal path straight to the long main beach of the island: Shell Beach. From here, always keeping left, it is only 10 minutes to the highest hill of the island; Le Grand Monceau, 43 m.Downhill, we take the same or a clearly parallel path to Shell Beach Café, where we turn left onto the beach and head north – depending on tide and personal preference, either directly far out

Wolfgang Schwartz, geboren 1967 in Schleswig-Holstein, bevorzugte nach dem Studium der Geographie und Germanistik in Kiel sowie einem Volontariat als Lektor für einen Kölner Reisebuchverlag eine Tätigkeit draußen als Reiseleiter von Aktivreisen im europäischen Ausland. Seit 1994 führt er Reisegruppen zu Fuß, aber auch per Rad oder auf Langlaufskiern überwiegend durch Italien, Skandinavien, Großbritannien und im deutschsprachigen Raum. Daneben arbeitet er als Scout für einen Outdoor-Veranstalter touristische Wander-Individualprogramme aus und führt für einen Wanderreiseveranstalter Insider-Touren auf Bornholm, seinem ersten Rother-Titel. Weitere Rother-Wanderführer des in den Niederlanden lebenden Autors erschienen zu seiner Heimatregion Norddeutschland.
