On the Noitatunturi route, you ascend to the highest point of Pyhä-Luosto National Park and get to see, among others, the magnificent Isokuru, Pyhänkaste waterfall, and Uhriharju.
Climbing Noitatunturi is a challenging but rewarding route. The old seita fell of the ancient forest Sami rises to 540 meters in height, and from there opens a vast landscape typical of Central Lapland with fens and fells. The traveler can admire ripple stones along the route, which remind that the fells were once the seabed.

Safety information
The route is very rocky and following the trail markings in bad weather is challenging. We recommend climbing Noitatunturi in clear weather.
Isokuru is a restricted area and leaving the marked summer trails is prohibited for both the preservation of nature and the safety of hikers. There is a significant avalanche risk in Isokuru during winter, so no winter route runs through the gully. Wooden boardwalks and stones can be very slippery, especially in wet weather and autumn frost. Biking is not allowed in restricted areas such as Isokuru or Noitatunturi.

Roadbook
At first, the route follows a 600 meter light traffic lane along Pyhäntie. The route initially follows a nature trail past Isokuru and then branches off to the Oravalammi lean-to shelter. This section of the route also includes a 70m steel boardwalk, which is good to consider when hiking with a dog. From Oravalammi, a steep and rocky ascent begins up to the top of Noitatunturi. Descending from the summit of Noitatunturi, an amazing view opens to the right towards Kuorinkikuru. The route joins the path leading to the Karhunjuomalampi day hut and continues through Uhriharju and Isokuru, Finland's deepest gully (220m), back to the starting point. The descent from Uhriharju to Isokuru is eased by over four hundred steps; there are also stairs at the southern end of Isokuru. An alternative staircase-free route back goes along a gravelled path via the northern slopes of Kultakero, past the Pyhätunturi hotel, and down Kultakerontie to the nature center. Along the route, there are connections to, among others, the Tunturiaapa nature trail and the Pyhä-Luosto hiking route.

Equipment
Due to the rocky nature of the route, we recommend sturdy, high-top hiking shoes. Weather can change rapidly in the fell, so please take this into account particularly in cool weather when choosing your clothing. Covering clothing, a mosquito hat, and insect repellent protect against mosquitoes in summer.
Bring snacks, drinking water, a charged phone, matches, toilet paper, map, first aid kit, and a garbage bag.
