Circular route between Elbe and Fläming
Naturpark Fläming e.V.
Highlights of the tour include the nature trail on the Bismarckstieg, the Bismarck Tower on the Hubertusberg, and the Luthersteig to Möllensdorf. On the way back to Coswig, you can enjoy perhaps the most beautiful views of the nature park from the Apollensberg.
On the circular route, you can discover the landscape diversity of the Fläming Nature Park and the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve. The Bismarckstieg nature trail is now also certified with the "Information on Accessibility" certificate.
From Coswig station, cross the level crossing at Luisenstraße/Berliner Straße and turn right into Hohe Straße. At the end, turn left into Hohe Mühle and soon reach the road to Möllensdorfer Landstraße, which you cross.
Here begins the popular Bismarckstieg, the first part of which has been designed as a nature trail. Along the trail, information boards and steel sculptures of the animals living here are displayed. The natural path mainly leads you through a bedstraw-oak-hornbeam forest. At an idyllic pond stands a memorial stone for Senior Forester Friedrich Bähr, who laid out the Bismarckstieg in 1902. At the end of the trail awaits the Red Pond, which today is only a meadow. An information board explains how this came about.
The trail continues through the valley of the Wörpener Bach through the Pfaffenheide to the Bismarck Tower on the Hubertusberg. Climb the 50 steps and enjoy a beautiful view over the Fläming. The tower is open from April to October on weekends and public holidays, except Ascension Day. The local gastronomy also invites you to linger on weekends. At any time, you can observe endangered domestic animal breeds in the adjacent enclosure.
From Hubertusberg, continue hiking on the Luthersteig. After a short stretch along the road, you reach the Lutherstein. Here, turn right into the forest. After crossing the small bridge over the Grieboer Bach, take some time to enjoy the scenic beauty. In December, a widely known Christmas market takes place in Möllensdorf.
A signpost at the bridge over the Grieboer Bach points the way to the Apollensberg. You first walk along the stream, then through forests and open landscapes, reaching the ecumenical summit cross of the 127-meter-high hill. At the top, a fantastic view awaits you. To the south lies the Elbe not far away. To the east, you can see Lutherstadt Wittenberg; to the west, Griebo and Coswig. In good weather, your view extends to Dessau, far beyond the Düben Heath and to Petersberg. A nature trail informs you about further special features, including the meadow orchard with native fruit varieties.
Leave the Apollensberg heading west and walk on field paths along the northern edge of Griebo to the Grieboer Bach, and then follow it south. You pass under the railway line and reach the center of Griebo on the B187. In the village, turn west again and cross the Grieboer Bach, which flows into the Elbe near an old mill. Coming from the valley of the Grieboer Bach, you reach the Café Abseits. The hiking trail runs together with the Elbe Cycle Route until Coswig. On the high bank of the Elbe, you will find several beautiful viewpoints over the river landscape and reach the Elbe meadows. From there, the hiking trail leads back to downtown Coswig. Before returning to the station, visit us at the Nature Park Information Center. Numerous dining facilities invite you to stay. Otherwise, follow Heidestraße and turn into Hohe Straße. This will take you back to the station.
