The Hauchenberg is the largest of the elongated mountain ridges between Immenstadt, Kempten, and Isny, which formed in the Alpine foothills. Simultaneously with the Alpine folding, weathering and erosion also began. Parts of the rock material – mud, sand, and gravel – were deposited in thick layers as molasse in the north. The Kühberg, located slightly further south, is also part of these ridges – although not quite as high as the Hauchenberg. The hike takes moderately trained hikers on easy to moderately difficult paths around the towns of Missen, Börlas, Diepolz, and Knottenried. Those with interest and time should not miss a visit to the fascinating mountain farming museum in Diepolz. Opened in 2001, the museum authentically brings to life a farm with an herb garden, a beekeeping area, and a historic village dairy with a cheese kitchen.
