Circular route at Cabo de Sao Vicente - The southwesternmost point of Europe

At the far southwest of the Algarve, Cabo de São Vicente, together with the Ponta de Sagres peninsula, forms the southwesternmost point of the European mainland. The cliffs here drop steeply into the Atlantic and provide the perfect backdrop for a varied circular route. We look inside the fortress complex around the 22 m high lighthouse, built in the 19th century. Although the tower, shining brightly in red and white, cannot be visited, a small museum at the cape provides you with all important information about its history. Along the further route along the coast, we pass the Fortaleza de Belixe, another fortress that is no longer accessible due to risk of collapse. Through sparse vegetation, the route heads north and then along the coast again back to Cabo de São Vicente.
